Rachel’s Campaign… making the jump

Promoting enterprise is positive, there is no doubt about that. There is something very exciting about the dream and the possibilities ahead.

However, I do question whether too much emphasis is placed on promoting start-ups and not enough focus on businesses which are trapped in the classic scenario of growth verses cash flow.

Around 80% of start-up companies will go bust within the first few years. What I find disturbing is the fact that there is plenty of support and funding for start up companies, but very little when you get the point of actually getting to the next level. This is where companies fall down because they simply cannot fund their growth, so resources become stretched and all the work they have put in becomes pointless as they cannot move forward.

My mission is to be heard. To help the government find a positive way forward. To set up a scheme that will bridge the gap and turn the statisctics around so that more companies make the jump.

The future of our economy depends on it.

If you have a business and can relate to the above, please post your comments.

I completely agree. Having been through the whole support system I felt my business was stagnating at the start up stage for many years!!

When I ignore all the business support miraculously my business expands and grows naturally. I really think it’s a dilemma when business owners want support to expand their businesses only to encounter more start up stage support that ticks the right boxes for the enterprise agency/ies.

It is a frustrating thing indeed.

We need to have more support for the needs of the business rather than the needs of these support agencies.

I will agree with what you have said here. Whilst I haven’t started a business of my own yet, I am planning to get started and studied a lot about making your own business and it seems common knowledge among many successful entrepreneurs that there is a gap that many fall into (the gap you mentioned here).

Government funding at the right time in the right companies seems like a very good solution to me but it is still speculation. Although no doubt the success rate of new start up business’ with grow considerably in my opinion. It is not guaranteed though, it could just be that it delays the inevitable and the business fails later rather than sooner.

Have you done any research or trials to help prove you belief?

Anyway, good luck with this and you have my support for it so far.
