Rachel receives MBE

Business woman and entrepreneur, Rachel Lowe, who built the Destination brand, was today listed to receive an MBE.

The 31 year old from Portsmouth, who featured in series 1 of the BBC2 television show Dragon’s Den, was today to be listed on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Recommendations for the list go through a committee, before being forwarded to the Prime Minister for submission to The Queen for approval. The list is published in The London Gazette and other national media.

Rachel has been committed not only to her own business, but to others thinking about setting up, providing inspiration and advice.

She says: “I’ve always been passionate about encouraging entrepreneurial spirit in young people and I enjoy passing on what I’ve learned and inspiring people to follow their dreams.”

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I received the letter and it still hasn’t sunk in. It’s a great honour.”

Rachel developed her board game, Destination, whilst cab-driving and formed RTL Games Ltd in 2003 from which 21 different editions of the successful game were born.

Rachel, who is mother of two girls, will attend an investiture at The Palace later this year to receive her MBE from the Queen.

Owing to circumstances beyond her control, Rachel’s business, RTL Games, went into administration earlier this year, but she remains excited about her future.

Rachel is now working closely with Fisher Partners who were appointed as the official administrators in order to find a buyer for the company. Rachel remains positive, having received a great deal of interest from potential investors.

Rachel says “The events of the past 6 months will only strengthen my campaign towards improving access to funding for companies at their crucial stages of development.”
