Brian Johnson and David Birne of Fisher Partners, the Corporate Recovery and Restructuring Department of HW Fisher & Company, were appointed Joint Administrators of RTL Games Limited on 28 May 2009 by one of the company’s creditors.

“Rachel Lowe, the founder of the company, will be an integral part of any discussions with interested parties, moving forward.”

RTL Games Limited has developed a strong profile in the board games industry around its Destination games brand, which first came to prominence in 2004 when entrepreneur and managing director of RTL Game Limited, Rachel Lowe, pitched the idea of the Destination London board game on the BBC TV show Dragons’ Den.

Following the success of the Destination brand, RTL Games Limited branched out into the licensed board games sector, securing a contract with Warner Bros to produce a Destination Hogwarts game to coincide with the release of the latest Harry Potter film.

The film was due to be released in October 2008, but was delayed for a year, leaving RTL Games Limited unable to meet creditors’ demands for payment. The company was placed into administration at the beginning of May 2009.

Brian Johnson, insolvency partner, Fisher Partners, comments: “Our objectives are to either preserve the company or find a buyer for the business and assets of the company in order to pay both the secured creditors and the unsecured creditors.
“We believe RTL Games Limited represents an attractive niche opportunity for a company within the games industry that is interested in expanding its portfolio.

“The Destination brand is an established and recognized brand in the board games market and we have already been contacted by parties interested in either investing in the company or acquiring the business and assets of the company.”

“Rachel Lowe, the founder of the company, will be an integral part of any discussions with interested parties, moving forward.”

I don’t think ‘failing’ in business is such a bad thing for Rachel Lowe. In fact don’t we learn more from our mistakes than if we did everything right. And as for the Dragons being ‘savvy’ they have invested money businesses that also didn’t make a success of themselves as they planned out. So it’s not as if their judgement is the last word on matters.

I would congratulate Rachel Lowe in what she has achieved and also for here MBE

Failure (if you want to call this sudden change in circumstances failure) is the condiment that gives success its flavour. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence therefore is not an act, but a habit. You have come out of each setback repeatedly stronger. So too will you come out of this a more powerful person. Take heart that this is only a temporary setback, one of those ups and downs that is so much part of life.

Rachel, I wish you all the best.

Best regards
Eileen

Dear Rachel,

As Director of a film production company I empathise completely with your struggle and hope you continue the fight and be strong. Hard work and talent will pay you back in droves and I wish you all the best,

Promoting enterprise is positive, there is no doubt about that. There is something very exciting about the dream and the possibilities ahead.

However, I do question whether too much emphasis is placed on promoting start-ups and not enough focus on businesses which are trapped in the classic scenario of growth verses cash flow.

Around 80% of start-up companies will go bust within the first few years. What I find disturbing is the fact that there is plenty of support and funding for start up companies, but very little when you get the point of actually getting to the next level. This is where companies fall down because they simply cannot fund their growth, so resources become stretched and all the work they have put in becomes pointless as they cannot move forward.

My mission is to be heard. To help the government find a positive way forward. To set up a scheme that will bridge the gap and turn the statisctics around so that more companies make the jump.

The future of our economy depends on it.

If you have a business and can relate to the above, please post your comments.
